CLEP (College Level Examination Program)
The CLEP program allows individuals to earn college
credit by examination in 35 different subjects. By passing these
standardized examinations, students can validate knowledge gained
through independent study, employment, or life experience. The CLEP
exams are given monthly on the main campus in Pittsfield at the
Assessment and Testing Center. The cost for the CLEP exam is $70.00
This amount is payable in two parts; $55.00 is payable to CLEP and
$15.00 is payable to BCC. The $55.00 fee can be made by check, money
order, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express)
on the date of the exam. The fee to the college can be paid in cash,
by check, or by money order. In certain instances, there may be
an additional $10.00 fee charged to those students taking the following
exams: American Literature, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature,
and English Literature. Please contact the Assessment and Testing
Center for details.
BCC is an CLEP Open Testing Center. This means that
students who attend other institutions may take the CLEP exams here
and have the results sent to their schools.
Registration packets are available from the Assessment
and Testing Center and may be obtained either in person or by calling
499-4660, ext. 1655 or 1656. Applications must be received at least
one week prior to the exam date. Students are urged to speak with
their advisors prior to registering for the CLEP to ensure that
the examination will meet the requirements of their programs.
The CLEP is now offered via computer, with students
receiving their copy of the score report immediately after testing
except for the English Composition with Essay examination.
